Facts:
– Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), also known as atypical pneumonia
– First case of SARS in Nov 16, 2002 in Guangdong, China
– First recognized by WHO in Feb 2003
– Incubation typically 2-7 days
– No known cure
– Transmission appears to be spread through droplets
– Caused by a coronavirus (a group of viruses that have a halo or crown-like (corona) appearance when viewed under a microscope)
– There is no current test for SARS
Symptoms:
– Begins with a fever greater than 100.4°F
– May include headache, an overall feeling of discomfort, and body aches
– After 2 to 7 days, may develop a dry cough and have trouble breathing
