Jesus said that there was only one needful thing that we should do. What was it?

Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

We’re to listen to His word. It’s so important, that it’s even more important to hear his word than even to serve Jesus. Mary could’ve decided to work in the kitchen instead, but she made a decision to sit as Jesus’ feet. And Jesus said that she chose that good part and it won’t be taken away from her.

We’re even commanded by God to hear Jesus.

Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Jesus said those who hear and do God’s word is His mother and brethren.

Luke 8:21 My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

Blessed is not Jesus’ mother that bore Him, but those that hear the word of God and keep it.

Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

In order to bear fruit we need to hear the word.

Mark 4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground;
such as hear the word
, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Those that belong to God, hears his word.

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Faith comes by hearing

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And the more we hear, the more will be given to us

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

We should decide to do the one needful thing. We should decide to give priority to sitting at the feet of Jesus over all the busy things that needs to be done.
