Pro 5:15-18 “Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of waters in the streets. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.”
Infidility. Not even the church is immune. One couple we talked with last night said that their pastor’s wife ran off with another man. The guest speaker that spoke yesterday at our church said that his father had ran off with another woman.
It is so alluring to think that abandoning your spouse and finding a better mate would make life happier. But it is an illusion. On one side, one might look at one’s spouse and see a small fountain that is worn out and offers little refreshment. And on the other side, one can see a lake that stretches across the horizon. But it is an illusion. When one decides to abandon the fountain that once had been the object of commitment and take off into the desert to find that tempting water, it’ll soon turn into disappointment as the water turns out to be a mirage. And the consequences of leaving your spouse will be devastating. It would devastate the spouse and children left behind. And it would devastate the discontent spouse that would soon find himself in the middle of a desert with no water.
The mirage escapes noone. All can see this mirage. But, one must realize that this is a mirage. It cannot satisfy. It can only destroy. Be content with the fountain that you have and realize that it alone is not a mirage.
