A controversy has erupted between Norman Geisler and Mike Licona over Matthew 27:52-53

“The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.”

Geisler maintains that this verse must be intepreted literally and that a failure to do so means a rejection of Biblical inerrancy. Licona interprets this otherwise and says that it can be viewed as apocalyptic imagery. Geisler says that Licona should recant over such a position. Licona replied that he could lean towards either position and also had some other scholars affirm that the position is still within an inerrancy position.
