A MIDlet is a program that follows the MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) specification. To get it working on my PPC-6700, I installed the WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment 5.7.2 – MIDP 2.0 for Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition. I’m not sure what it means by it being an “evaluation” version, but it seems to be fully functional. I guess IBM would rather have you buy it for $6 from Handango. After I downloaded it, I ran in on my PC and then it installed the JVM to the PPC. I then opened up PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) and went to http://google.com/glm and selected Generic/MIDP 2. Then it downloaded and installed the Google Maps midlet. Cool, now I can get driving directions and local information from anywhere.
