The Republicans captured control of the Senate and gained more seats in the House. Also, for the first time since 1872, Georgia has a Republican Governor. It’s amazing that two incumbant Democrats (Max Cleland and Roy Barnes) were kicked out.

And I’m also surprised that elsewhere, Republicans were able to win some closely watched races. Jeb Bush will stay on in Florida and even a big name like Mondale couldn’t capture Minnesota.

The question now is why were the Republicans able to capture so many seats? Did public support of Pres Bush help out all the Republican candidates? Did this economic downturn sway voters for a more conservative fiscal policy? Did the Republican war chests overpower Democratic purses? Since we didn’t have exit poll information, we won’t really know. However, my theory is that prayer was a major factor.
