As of July 1, 2001 estimates:
– 37.0m Hispanics (13% of total population)
– 36.2m Blacks (12.7%)
– 11.0m Asians (4%)

It just seems weird to me that Hispanics is now the largest minority group in the US. It’s not that I don’t believe it. But I’ve been so used to the idea that blacks were the largest minority. Already we see Spanish being used in many public places (like Wal-Mart, K-Mart). However, we don’t see many Hispanics yet in politics or entertainment or sports as much as blacks. But, eventually, we’ll see many more Hispanics in those areas. Primarily they now make up a large base of the lower class. I wonder how long it’ll take when they will make more per capita than blacks. Also, when they start to mobilize themselves, it’ll be interesting to see how they affect society, particularly in politics.
