After 3 weeks off, I’m now back online. I’m lying on my bed at this moment typing on my laptop connected wirelessly to the cable modem. I’ve had to jump through a lot of hoops to get to this point, but it’s nice to see it all working.
On my laptop, I upgraded from RedHat 7.l to 8.0. (Yes, I know the latest is now 9.0.) Next, I bought a LinkSys wireless PCMCIA card and installed the wlan drivers. Then I decided on getting cable broadband with Comcast since they didn’t have contracts. BellSouth and Earthlink both required a 12 month contract for their DSL.
My desktop is connected through an ethernet cable to the broadband router. My wife’s laptop is connected through a USB wireless adapter. And my Zaurus PDA is on through the wireless also.
The only thing a little disappointing is that the cable modem speed doesn’t seem that fast. I’ll do some checking on that sometime soon.
