I’ve decided to buy the Sprint PPC-6700 Smart phone. This is my first PDA/cellphone and it’s got practically all the features that I was looking for – PDA, cellphone, Wifi, Bluetooth, keyboard, and a decent camera. But, the main thing that I got it for was the wireless modem capability. Right now, I’m sitting in Starbucks and typing in my laptop with it connected to the internet through the smartphone. So, now I’m able to access the internet from anywhere with my laptop. The smartphone of course also has IE built-in, so I can surf the web in the middle of a meeting. Speed is also pretty fast since it’s using EV-DO. Also you can’t beat the pricing for data – $15/month.
The smartphone is pretty expensive though. But I justify it by the fact that I’m basically getting an ultraportable computer. The only other downside is that there isn’t much software for it. Well, at least the software that I want and in my price range (free). Even my Zaurus has a better selection of software. But, the list of software is surely going to grow. It seems like Microsoft is going to take over the mobile market. And it was one of the major reasons I chose this one over the others (eg Treo, Sidekick).
Overall, I’m pleased with it so far. It’s got a great set of features and the modem connectivity works well.
